While at Shenandoah National Park we were given a tip about nearby Ricketts Glen State Park.  Having spent the night in Wilkes-Barre, we were planning on spending the morning hiking at Ricketts Glen.  But heavy rain showers and thunderstorms canceled our plans.

After the skies cleared, we found Kirby Park and its access to many miles of trails along the Susquehanna River.  Unfortunately the same rains that cancelled our Ricketts Glen plans had flooded much of the area and trail paths along the Susquehanna River.  But we were still able to connect with the trail on top of the river levee and make a 1.25 mile loop within Kirby Park.

From Kirby Park we had access to the pedestrian walk across the Market Street Bridge.  On the south side of the Susquehanna we enjoyed a walk around downtown Wilkes-Barre and found River Common Park with a trail on the south riverbank.
