We had been planning on spending another day hiking in Shenandoah National Park but Mother Nature changed this dog's plan with a day of rain and thunderstorms.

Jim Barnett Park was a good place to get some exercise in between the rain showers.  The park has a Figure 8 paved walking trail a mile in length.  The northern loop is about 0.6 mile in length and the south loop about 0.4 mile loop.  There is a Mutt Mitt station where the loops join but we noticed the station was out of bags.

Although the trail is paved there is no paved access from the parking areas (We had difficulty just finding an appropriate place to park to access the trail.  We found a lot at corner of Maple Drive and Hollingsworth Drive on the south).

So I got my dog paws wet getting to the walking path.  Along the southwest edge of the path there was lots of flooding.  As a result this area has considerable litter buildup.

Jim Barnett park is home to the Winchester Dog Park. The dog park requires a pass obtained at the War Memorial Building.
