Green Area Availability : Not Scarce / Not Abundant
Green Area Access : Not as easy as usual
Green Area Size : Able to sniff around
Green Area Cleanliness : Typical
Congestion : Effort minimizes contact with others

The official pet area is relatively small for such a large welcome center.  The traveling dog will find that a triangular area has been set aside for him; a green area about 35 feet wide at the base with the long sides about 75 feet long.

Relative to the size of the welcome center, the green area is little and far between.  The next best option is along the car parking lot in front (north) of the visitor center.  Running the lenght of the parking lot for about 100 yards is a usable green area about 15 feet deep.

For exercise dogs can roam across the truck parking but will find on the south side the green is rocky and rough.  Most of the nice green at this welcome center is around the picnic areas.

The Chauffeur said the inside of the visitor center was nice and they have a nice playset for children.  Too bad my home state didn't put more thought into accommodating dogs.

Pet Area

Dogs will find the officially designated pet area to be a triangular area.  The base is about 35 feet wide; the other 2 sides about 75 feet long.  There is another nearby triangular-shaped green "island" to the northwest offering about the same amount of grass (though shorter and thicker).

East End of Picnic Shelter

We got excited when we saw a sign stating "Walking Trail."  But the walking trail is merely the sidewalk around the end of the picnic area.  Traveling dogs may find less used green and a little more peace and quiet here.

South Green Option

We always venture across the truck parking.  Often we find some good green for dogs to sniff and explore.  This was not the case here where we found rocky and rough ground.

North Green Option

The most convenient and heavily used option for traveling dogs is the strip of green running along the north edge of the car parking.  The usable strip of green is about 15 feet deep and about 100 yards long.  Several traveling dogs utilized this area while we were here.
