Texas Welcome Center US 75 / US 69

MM 75 (southbound) / Exit 74 (northbound)

This Welcome Center is accessible by both southbound and northbound dogs.  Heading south, it is a typical rest area exit at Mile Marker 75.  Northbound take Exit 74 and a couple turns will get you to this GREAT dog stop.

We first visited late on March 23.  The Visitor Center was closed (Hours are 8:00-5:00 in winter, 8:00-6:00 Memorial Day to Labor Day) but restrooms are available 24 hours.  When asked where dogs were allowed, the guard informed us "If it's green it's for the dogs."

When we visited again after our stay at Eisenhower State Park we learned it was accessible from the south.  This accessibility along with the Texas-sized HUGE areas of green and "If it's green.." policy make this stop a Prospect's Pick.

As I ventured (far) from the visitor center, I picked up a couple cockleburs but there is lots and lots of green where I did not have this problem.

Northside

All green areas are HUGE here so I won't say that the traveling dog will find a HUGE green are on the north between the car parking and truck entrance road.  Near the farthest edge I picked up a thorny cocklebur in the paw.

West Picnic Area

West of the visitor center between the car parking and truck parking is a very nice stretch of green with a paved path and picnic tables.

South Expanse of Green

The traveling dog wanting ACRES of green to walk and sniff will find just that to the southwest and south beyond the truck parking.  Here is the second spot where I picked up a thorny cocklebur in the paw.
