Green Area Cleanliness : Occasional Litter

Our very first experience in Oklahoma was the I-35 Welcome Center just south of the Kansas border which is a "Prospect's Pick."  This stop probably set our expectations too high for the rest of Oklahoma.

Here the traveling dog will find a large, tree-filled pet area just to the west of the visitor center. Pet area offers lots of sniffing-and-marking opportunities. While the area is flat, it is inconveniently located down a large embankment and based on the drainage culverts and eroded paths it is obvious this is not a good place to be after a rain.

Being where water runs, there is the accompanying litter that washes in.  There is a large brush pile in the middle of the pet area.  While some humans may think it is an eye-sore, I enjoyed the extra scents to sniff.

Along the southside car parking area there is a green stretch about 30 feet deep and several hundred feet long that we used to connect with the pet area.

Counting at least 6 "No Pets Beyond" signs gave us the same un-welcoming experience that led us to previously give an avoid to the Oklahoma I-35 Northbound MM 3 Rest Area.

Visitor Center

The Chauffeur said the Visitor Center was comfortable & clean and the staff were very friendly.

Pet Exercise Area

The pet exercise area is large but descending a large embankment is necessary for access.  The area runs a couple hundred feet back along a fence on the south.  Near the visitor center at the embankment, the area is about 100 feet wide.  To the north before the picnic area an eroded ditch will be encountered.
