The Fort Smith Historic Site is one of the dog-friendliest places we have visited.  The Chauffeur says the staff inside the visitor center offered poop bags for our walk (but he always keeps a bunch in his pocket).  Several staff members offered to take our picture together and others just came up to say hello to me.

We were not planning on this being more than a 45 minute to an hour stop but enjoyed our time so much we stayed over 2 hours.

If you've watch either the John Wayne movie True Grit or the recent remake, you'll recognize references to the Fort Smith courthouse, Judge Parker, and the Gallows.  This is the real live place!

Not only is there a half-mile RiverfrontWalk for dogs to stretch their paws but dogs are welcome inside the Gallows and Commissary!

Near the Trail of Tears Overlook I met Hank the Beagle who was recently a Fort Smith area stray but was rescued and preparing his journey to a forever home in Chicago.  The trail leads to Forth Smith's Riverfront Amphitheater park where dogs can stretch their legs for a few more minutes.

Visitor Center & Museum

The Visitor Center & Museum is located in the old barracks, jail, and courthouse.

Commissary

Although dogs are welcome to enter the Commissary, by the end of our visit I was just too tired to make it over to this building.

Parking Lot / Trailhead

This place is so dog inviting they make sure humans can properly curb their dogs by providing waste bags.

Trail End

Here you leave the Forth Smith Historic Site and enter the Fort Smith Riverfront Amphitheatre (city park).
