Leonard Park is not as dog-friendly as we hoped when we saw the big green spot on the map.  Leonard Park includes Frank Buck Zoo, local swimming pool, and 8 ballfields.  So "in season" the traffic will be very congested.  For less crowds try Moffett Park across the road.

Since we were visiting during the "off season" we were able to get away from the crowds back by the ball fields.  While we were hoping for a walking trail we found plenty of green to roam around amongst the ball fields.

Note that the Zoo is right next to the parking lot.  While the fence is (mostly) ivy covered, plenty of new and exciting smells waft across to arouse a dog's attention.

Also, if you visit do not be like The Chauffeur and attempt to turn where there is a big entrance sign.  That only goes to a parking lot for the war memorial.  Go west a couple hundred feet and follow the zoo signs and drive back to the ball fields.

Don't Turn Here

As inviting as it seems, don't turn here.

Turn Here

This is the (less obvious) entrance.

Picnic & Play Area

Nice picnic area and playground, but not suitable for dog activities.

Frank Buck Zoo

There are lots of odors coming from the zoo so if you're a dog that easily gets excited...

Ball Fields

There are 8 ball fields; two groups of 4 with each group forming a circle (only south group is shown in satellite view).  In the middle of each group is a water fountain that worked.

Swimming Pool

The public swimming pool will only make Leonard Park more congested and less attractive for dogs in the summer months.
