KS Turnpike (I-35) Mile Marker 65

Towanda Service Area

ShareThis

With over 8 total acres of green available, this service area offers many options for the traveling dog to stretch, sniff, and mark.

The northeast green area, adjacent to the parking area, is heavily used.  Litter is scattered across this area and offers many bad temptations for a dog to put something nasty in his or her mouth.

We recommend the area near the water tower where you will find several acres of dog pleasure.

Water Tower Area

The traveling dog here will find several acres of green suitable for taking a break from the highway. From the Services Building end to a maintenance road, there is about 2 1/3 acres (200 feet wide by 500 feet deep).  If needed, there is more acreage across the maintenance road for dogs to sniff and mark.

Maintenance Road

In the satellite view, you can see the maintenance road forming part of the 200-foot by 500-foot perimeter referenced in the Water Tower area description.

Triangle Area

In front of the Water Tower Area is a triangle area with parking, picnic tables, and trees.  The sides with parking spots are about 100 feet long.  The third side is about 160 feet long.  While not marked with signs prohibiting dogs, we feel it's best to let humans have their own space; especially, when acres and acres for dogs is just steps away.

Northeast Green Area

With adjacent parking, this 2/3 acre area is heavily used and during our visit heavily littered.

Southeast Green Area

Across the truck parking to the southeast is about 1.75 acres of usable, flat green area for traveling dogs.

Northwest Green Area

Across the truck parking to the northwest is about 1.5 acres of usable, flat green area for traveling dogs.
