I-55 Rest Area - Mile Marker 240

Southbound

Both the north and south end have official dog areas.  Smaller than than the Mississippi Welcome Center at Mile Mark 278, this stop offers the traveling dog about 1/3 acre of green area with many pine trees on the northside.  Staying away from the crowd, dogs can get some extra stretching by sniffing around back towards the south end. The south end has an embankment towards a smaller open area.

Near the south-end covered picnic area is a water pump with hose.  I didn't point it out to my chauffeur -- he's been talking about me needing a cleaning and didn't want him to get the idea to give me one of his famous "emergency" baths.

There are covered picnic tables at both the north and south ends.  The north end table sits on a concrete pad that is mostly covered by dirt that has been washed in by rain.

There is 24 hour security.  The friendly security guard greeted us well and was obviously an animal lover.  He gave us a heads up that a stray cat had been staying nearby (I looked and it was all clear when we were there).
